Taoyuan Airport to Taipei: Airport MRT Guide

Plan Taoyuan Airport to Taipei by Airport MRT: terminal stations, express versus commuter services, city transfers and late-arrival checks.
TaiwanTrain is an independent service, not the official THSR or TRA website. Where booking is offered, availability confirmation and ticket fulfilment are manual. Payment does not guarantee ticket issuance. Check the operator’s current timetable and ticket rules for your travel date.
The rail connection from Taoyuan International Airport to Taipei is the Taoyuan Airport MRT. It is a separate system from Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR), Taiwan Railways (TRA) and the Taipei Metro. Plan the airport ride and any city connection as distinct parts of your journey.
Choose the terminal and direction
Terminal 1 is served by Airport Terminal 1 station (A12), and Terminal 2 by Airport Terminal 2 station (A13). Follow the airport signs for Airport MRT, then confirm that the train is travelling toward Taipei Main Station (A1). Your airline terminal and arrival time matter more than the city name printed on a flight booking. Taoyuan International Airport is different from Taipei Songshan Airport.
Express or commuter train?
The Airport MRT has express and commuter services with different stopping patterns. Check the destination display and current timetable at your terminal; do not assume that every train serves every station. An express service is a useful option for central Taipei, while a commuter service may suit an intermediate stop. Compare your actual departure choices instead of treating a quoted journey time as a door-to-door promise.
Continue from Taipei Main Station
A1 is the Airport MRT station in the wider Taipei Main Station area. Reaching Taipei Metro, TRA or THSR involves following signs and walking through the interchange area. Choose your hotel’s nearest metro station before arriving, and keep the full hotel address available. A large suitcase, step-free route or unfamiliar exit can add time; avoid a tight reserved-train connection immediately after an international flight.
Tickets, luggage and late arrivals
Use the operator’s current fare information for your origin and destination and check the accepted payment methods before entering. An airport ticket is not automatically a ticket for a following metro or intercity journey. Keep luggage clear of doors and accessible spaces. Check the last departure for your terminal and direction, including time for immigration and baggage collection. If rail service has ended, compare the airport’s current bus and taxi information rather than assuming overnight trains run.
A practical airport-to-hotel sequence
After immigration and baggage collection, follow Airport MRT signs to A12 or A13 and choose a Taipei-bound service. At A1, leave time to walk to the city metro, TRA or THSR area, or use the exit closest to your accommodation. The official tourism information quotes about 35 minutes between Taipei and Terminal 1 and 39 minutes for Terminal 2 on an express service; these are train times, not airport-to-hotel estimates.
