Taoyuan Airport to HSR: A18 Transfer Guide

Connect Taoyuan Airport with Taiwan HSR at A18: choose the right Airport MRT train, plan separate tickets and continue south from Taoyuan.

TaiwanTrain is an independent service, not the official THSR or TRA website. Where booking is offered, availability confirmation and ticket fulfilment are manual. Payment does not guarantee ticket issuance. Check the operator’s current timetable and ticket rules for your travel date.

For a southbound high-speed rail journey after landing, compare a transfer at THSR Taoyuan station instead of automatically travelling into Taipei first. The airport and THSR station are separate places, connected by the Airport MRT and other ground transport.

Travel from the airport to A18

Start at A12 for Terminal 1 or A13 for Terminal 2. Your interchange is A18 HSR Taoyuan Station, in the direction away from Taipei. Check the stopping pattern on the departure display: you need a service that actually calls at A18. Do not board a train simply because it is labelled express. On arrival, follow signs from the MRT to the THSR station and its ticket gates.

Use the right Taoyuan station

THSR Taoyuan and TRA Taoyuan are different stations. For a high-speed service to Taichung, Tainan or Zuoying, select Taoyuan in the THSR booking system. Taipei-bound travel would use the northbound side; travel toward central and southern Taiwan uses southbound services. Check whether your chosen train calls at your destination, because stopping patterns differ.

Plan two tickets and a realistic buffer

The Airport MRT transfer and THSR journey have separate ticket conditions. Include immigration, baggage collection, walking, waiting and ticket collection when deciding on a THSR departure. Flight delays can make a fixed train connection impractical. Compare the flexibility and change conditions of the exact rail product before paying rather than assuming that a later train will accept the same ticket.

Allow for the destination transfer

A high-speed rail arrival is not always a city-centre arrival. THSR Taichung is in Wuri, THSR Tainan is separate from central TRA Tainan, and the high-speed station for Kaohsiung is Zuoying. Compare the full route to your accommodation, including local rail, metro, bus or taxi. For late flights, check both the last useful Airport MRT connection and the last THSR service, not just one timetable.

Check the destination display, not just the train colour

A18 is HSR Taoyuan Station. The airport stations are A12 and A13, so the HSR connection is in the direction away from Taipei. Some service patterns differ; choose a train whose displayed stops include A18. At A18, follow the THSR signs and check the northbound or southbound platform for your reserved journey. The MRT fare and THSR ticket are separate.

FAQ

Must I go to Taipei before taking HSR south?

Not necessarily. A transfer at THSR Taoyuan may be more practical; compare the complete itinerary.

Is the Airport MRT fare included in an HSR ticket?

Do not assume it is. Check the exact product; ordinary tickets cover their own operator and journey.

Which Airport MRT station connects with THSR Taoyuan?

A18 HSR Taoyuan Station. Choose a service that calls at A18 from your airport terminal.
