Taiwan High Speed Rail: Stations, Tickets and Transfers

Understand Taiwan High Speed Rail, its western corridor, major HSR stations and the transfers needed to reach city centres.

TaiwanTrain is an independent service, not the official THSR or TRA website. Where booking is offered, availability confirmation and ticket fulfilment are manual. Payment does not guarantee ticket issuance. Check the operator’s current timetable and ticket rules for your travel date.

The 12 THSR stations, north to south

The corridor runs through Nangang, Taipei, Banqiao, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan and Zuoying. This is a network list, not a stopping pattern: individual trains skip stations. Search both endpoints for your travel date, and compare the departure, arrival and onward transfer before selecting a service.

Reserved seats, non-reserved seats and booking

A reserved-seat ticket specifies the train and seat. A non-reserved ticket does not guarantee a seat and must be used under its own conditions. THSR online reservations normally open 29 days ahead, with special opening arrangements for some weekends and holidays; confirm the currently offered date in the official booking calendar. The online website and T Express app have different last-minute booking cutoffs.

Where THSR fits into a Taiwan itinerary

THSR is designed for intercity movement on the western corridor. It can be useful when an itinerary includes Taipei, Taichung, Tainan or the Kaohsiung area, but it does not replace TRA for eastern destinations such as Hualien and Taitung.

Know the station before choosing the route

Taipei HSR is part of the Taipei Main Station complex. Taichung HSR is in Wuri rather than at central TRA Taichung Station. Tainan HSR is separate from downtown TRA Tainan Station. For Kaohsiung, THSR uses Zuoying, while TRA also serves Kaohsiung Main Station.

Plan the final city transfer

Compare the rail segment together with the transfer after arrival. A faster intercity train may still require local rail, metro, bus or another transfer to reach the final neighbourhood. The correct choice depends on the full door-to-door journey.

Pre-trip checklist

  • Confirm whether the journey uses THSR, TRA, or a separate tourism railway.
  • Check the full station name because HSR and TRA stations may be in different parts of the same city.
  • Recheck current operator information shortly before departure.
  • Allow enough time for transfers between rail systems and local transport.

FAQ

Does THSR serve Hualien or Taitung?

No THSR route serves Taiwan east coast; rail planning for Hualien and Taitung generally uses TRA.

Is Taichung HSR the same as TRA Taichung Station?

No. They are in different parts of the city, so include the transfer in the itinerary.

Which HSR station is used for Kaohsiung?

THSR uses Zuoying. Check whether the final destination is closer to Zuoying or another Kaohsiung transport hub.

Does every THSR train stop at all 12 stations?

No. Stopping patterns differ; search the exact origin, destination and date.
