Taipei to Taichung by Train: HSR, TRA and Transfers
Plan Taipei to Taichung by comparing Taichung HSR in Wuri with the central TRA station and the required city transfer.
TaiwanTrain is an independent service, not the official THSR or TRA website. Where booking is offered, availability confirmation and ticket fulfilment are manual. Payment does not guarantee ticket issuance. Check the operator’s current timetable and ticket rules for your travel date.
HSR Taichung and TRA Taichung are different
THSR arrives in Wuri, at the interchange with TRA Xinwuri and Taichung MRT HSR Taichung Station. To reach central TRA Taichung Station, check an onward TRA service from Xinwuri. The metro follows its own corridor and should be chosen according to the nearest station to your hotel, not simply the word Taichung.
Which option fits your destination?
Choose THSR when the shorter intercity ride and Wuri connections fit your itinerary. Compare a direct TRA service when staying close to central Taichung Station. For Sun Moon Lake, the rail leg ends in Taichung and a separate bus journey follows; select the bus boarding point that matches the rail station. Neither a train booking nor a rail pass reserves the connecting bus.
Pre-trip checklist
- Confirm whether the journey uses THSR, TRA, or a separate tourism railway.
- Check the full station name because HSR and TRA stations may be in different parts of the same city.
- Recheck current operator information shortly before departure.
- Allow enough time for transfers between rail systems and local transport.
