Taiwan Train Map: THSR, TRA and Airport Rail Connections

Read Taiwan rail maps by separating west-coast HSR, the wider TRA network, airport MRT and tourism railways, with practical interchange examples.
TaiwanTrain is an independent service, not the official THSR or TRA website. Where booking is offered, availability confirmation and ticket fulfilment are manual. Payment does not guarantee ticket issuance. Check the operator’s current timetable and ticket rules for your travel date.
A Taiwan train map becomes easier to use when you separate the operators. THSR serves the western corridor; TRA reaches a wider network including the east coast. Airport MRT, city metros and tourism railways add separate connections. A line on a map does not guarantee a direct train.
Start with the west-coast HSR corridor
Use the current THSR route map to find stations between Nangang and Zuoying. Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Chiayi and Tainan are useful planning anchors, but this is not a complete stop list. Individual services can skip stations. For each journey, check the timetable with your precise origin and destination instead of assuming a train stops at every dot on the map.
Use TRA for the east coast and local connections
For Hualien and Taitung, look at TRA routes rather than extending the HSR line across the island. TRA also provides western mainline and branch-line journeys. Confirm whether your search result is a direct service or requires a change. A connected-looking route diagram may conceal different service patterns, a long wait or a section affected by current operating notices.
Mark station pairs before choosing hotels
The same city name can hide different locations. THSR Taichung connects in the Wuri area, while TRA Taichung is in the central city. THSR Tainan connects via the Shalun area rather than sharing the central TRA station. Zuoying is the high-speed rail gateway for Kaohsiung. Plot your accommodation and final local connection, not just the intercity arrival name.
Add airports and scenic destinations separately
The Taoyuan Airport MRT connects the airport with Taipei and THSR Taoyuan via different directions. Alishan Forest Railway is a separate tourism railway, not an extension of THSR. Jiufen and Sun Moon Lake require a road leg; a nearby rail station does not mean the train reaches the attraction. Keep official route maps for geography and use date-specific operator timetables and notices for travel decisions.
Three useful station pairs to mark on a map
Mark HSR Taichung–TRA Xinwuri, HSR Tainan–TRA Shalun and HSR Zuoying–TRA Xinzuoying. These are interchange relationships, not the central-city station in every case. Mark Airport MRT A1 near Taipei Main Station and A18 at HSR Taoyuan. Keep a route diagram separate from the actual walking map and date-specific timetable.
